The Legacy of Liberace

Liberace is one of my biggest inspirations. He set standards of showmanship that remain unrivaled. I had the honor of being tapped by the late artist’s foundation to conceptualize ways to bring forth the icon into younger consciousness as they built up to his 100th anniversary celebration.

As I researched, I came upon a video of recording artist Kesha proclaiming she was Liberace in a past life. I connected the dots & realized she’d be touring through Las Vegas with another Liberace enthusiast & current icon, Macklemore. I proposed to their teams that they visit the archive & use iconic pieces on stage at their show.

The idea was embraced & quickly morphed into the basis for a tour video titled “LEGENDARY.” I handled communication, conceptualization, costume support & execution of visual elements. What resulted was Liberace’s return to the Vegas stage carried by two major artists of today in a spiritual act of storytelling that ushered in a new generation of fans.

My work with Liberace’s legacy has continued in support of the costume archive, most recently packing the famous rhinestone tux for display at the 2019 ‘Notes on Camp’ Met exhibit, & archive costuming support for Philip Fortenberry’s ‘Hands of Liberace’ show.
